Teisco MJ-2, 1963

Teisco MJ-2, 1963

$450.00

I’m not sure what this was originally branded - there is label glue residue on the headstock, but it has proven maddeningly illegible. While we don’t know who sold this one, this model was among the first wave of Teisco imports in the early 60’s. Brian Eno played one in Roxy Music, Pete Shelley played one in the Buzzcocks, and for good reason! They sound great! These pickups are sought after for their solid, well-defined sound and you can see the genesis of some of the later, wilder Japanese designs in that headstock. It’s a thing of beauty.

This one has been refretted, the fingerboard planed & radiused (the fingerboard seems to be made of some type of mahogany - don’t see that every day), new bone nut and new pots and knobs. It’s a truly unique color, a plummy burgundy color that I’ve not seen before. Cosmetically, it looks like it’s lived for 55 mostly-non catastrophic years, although there is a scar around the neck plate (the neck pocket itself is solid) and it’s missing one one of the purely-decorative “pole piece” screws. It plays well and is ready to go make some noise!

Scale: 24 ¾”
