Kimberly-branded Teisco BS-101, circa 1965. First off, this is the single greatest model name ever. There are short scale basses and then there are shortest scale basses. This is a bass in a guitar size (24 ¾” scale), but nothing about the sound is little! It’s got a vaunted gold foil pickup and a 3x1 “harpoon” headstock.

Pickup aside, all the metal parts on this one were corroded and terrible (maybe it lived in some type of a maritime environment?), so it’s had an extensive renovation: new tuners/nut/fingerboard, added a woodburned pickguard, and upgraded the bridge to an aluminum Hipshot. It plays really, really well and the bridge change adds a ton of punch, definition, and sustain. The sound is a wonderful combination of vintage and contemporary. It’s an absolute delight.
